And not only is there the painful reality of the loss of a loved one, but also the frightening reminder that we, too, must die. Someone they loved has been snatched away by death, never again to be seen or heard in this life. I can just hear someone saying, “Good word,” at the end of the ceremony, even if a nursery rhyme had been recited.
